The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame isn't something young MCs aspire to like they do in, say, the NFL or NBA, but there's still something to be said for mainstream recognition on that level.


The 2009 nominees have been announced. You have your usual rockers (The Stooges, KISS) and chart-toppers (ABBA, Red Hot Chili Peppers), but there's one very familiar hip hop name on the list of 12 too- L.L. Cool J. With a resumé that goes well beyond album sales, L.L. seems like a shoe-in for enshrinement in Cleveland.

The induction will take place next spring. Here's the full roster of noms:
